Nesting.

Oh, baby.

Baby is what’s on my mind 24/7 these days. I am now nearly 24 weeks and am realizing quickly how much I would like to do before baby is here. I also continue to remind myself that not everythingย needs to be done before baby arrives, but considering my personality, I would sure like it to be.

I have fallen knee-deep into nesting mode. Everything I touch in my home I must organize. I spend hours browsing google for the perfect organizers and nursery furniture, making sure to read reviews on everything as I go. I continue to build on my baby registry as I think of more and more things the baby might “need.” I want to clean and get upset when the house doesn’t stay clean. I make endless to-do lists. I’m not complaining though; I kind of like it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m maybe a little crazy not to mention completely hormonal lately. I read a line from a book called The Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy that my cousin lent to me (one of the hundreds of books I’m reading currently) that was just too perfect not to share:

“It’s as if your emotional engine is stuck at fourth gear and running full throttle all the time. You don’t build up to a feeling so much as arrive at it going ninety miles an hour. Worse yet, your brakes are no good and you’re not sure if the power steering works.”

At the beginning of pregnancy I didn’t feel the whole pregnancy mood swing thing; I even commented just a little over a week ago how I haven’t hardly cried at all. Clearly,ย I spoke to soon. It just comes out of nowhere. I’ll get super upset about something and then within ten minutes I will be laughing. I feel like I have no control over it but I am trying to be aware of it at least. These things are legit–they’re not just an excuse for us to be crazy I promise!

My family and friends are very patient with me.

To say I’m excited to be a mom would be the understatement of the year. I was born to be a mom. I grew up loving my baby dolls: feeding them, changing them, tucking them into bed, cuddling with them. I even remember holding them underneath my shirt pretending I was pregnant!

I am a nurturer and a lover and I am ecstatic to be able to smother this baby boy with love. I am already so in love.

Dana and I continue to dream of what are baby boy will be like. Ahhh the greatness that occupies my thoughts. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s all for today my friends. Have a fabulous day!

ha! I remember the random water works- completely comes out of nowhere! At first with the nursery and baby registry, I was all about WE NEED ALL OF THESE THINGS. From first-hand experience, I can say confidently, that you really don’t. And at certain times, you’ll feel awesome because you were so resourceful. It might sound a tad cold, but it’s very true that for the first month or two, the baby really is just a baby. they are tiny, very portable, and you’ll realize that all you really NEED are diapers galore, wipes, and their food. Three major necessities!

I will also add two more things: most babies LOVE and NEED white noise. My daughter sleeps best with it, she’s 4 months old. Buy a sound machine or register for one! I got mine here: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/1/1/24046-homedics-soundspa-sound-machine.html

A true godsend! I also love your hubby’s name. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha, I couldn’t agree more with the previous comment. Mother of 3 here saying, the only thing you need to legally take that baby home with you from the hospital is a car seat. We are totally equipped as parents with everything that little baby needs to survive. Everything else is extra and can actually cause more stress at times. There are things that help out for a very short period of time, but are totally not necessary. And from someone who hates clutter, is just something else to store (i.e. those swings that take up a ridiculous amount of room and work for about 3 weeks, or not at all, which was the case with all 3 of my babies).

However, that white noise machine has been the one and only thing that I used with all 3 kids. We have 4 of them (one for traveling). Even the diaper geenie didn’t make it past 1 baby (those things start to smell something fierce).

Good luck, and don’t over think it, although all new mothers do.

Thanks for the advice! I am trying not to go too crazy on the baby registry. I’m going to add a white noise machine to my registry now!

Did you just read my mind? Because everything you just described is EXACTLY what I’m doing and how I’m feeling. Our house is literally dumped upside down and I won’t stop until I’ve conquered every single drawer, closet, and cupboard. Even though it’s my second pregnancy, I still cry ALL THE TIME and I still daydream about what she’s going to look like and if she will be anything like Emery. I’m getting so excited for November to be here, but at the same time I have so much left to do for the baby! Ahhh!

  4. Oh, this is so sweet!! I am glad you’re not the letting the tears get to you either ๐Ÿ˜‰ Crying one minute, laughing the next – I think Kyle would say that’s a typical woman, hehe!

Hahaha go I love this post!!! Nesting is the number one thing I had a problem with, it got so bad I wouldn’t let anyone but me do the clean up in my kitchen because they didn’t clean like I did ๐Ÿ™‚ and ohhhhh the hormones all the wonderful things about pregnancy!!! Your gunna be a great mommy so excited for you, little boys are so special but I’m bias ๐Ÿ˜‰

If I ever doubted that we were not alike … this sentence defines my childhood,

“I grew up loving my baby dolls: feeding them, changing them, tucking them into bed, cuddling with them. I even remember holding them underneath my shirt pretending I was pregnant!”

For me, I could’ve cared less about Barbie — but Baby (emphasis on the capital ‘B’) — that doll was loved. I dragged her everywhere I went. I vividly remember my mom and I at the grocery store (I must have been 5/6 yrs old) and another shopper actually thought it was a real newborn.

Yeah, my mom let a kindergartner hold a 6-month old. Oh, people.

The hormones can get a little crazy ๐Ÿ˜‰ Ice cream helps me.

I mentioned to my doctor at my last visit that I should get things ready for baby’s arrival. She said, “At least you know by baby three that all you really need are diapers and a few blankets.” Probably true, but it didn’t stop me from scrubbing the nursery like crazy, organizing all of our baby gear and buying over $100 in diapers on my Target trip. I’m also feeling like the rest of the house must be organized now.

Haha! I know everyone keeps telling me all you really need when baby arrives is a car seat and diapers. In the back of my head I know this is true, BUT of course I want to get everything now and organize every nook and cranny still.
